Students admitted into the Gifted and Talented Program must meet eligibility requirements established for participation at the level of entry and continue to meet requirements set for each level. Parents of students in the Middle and High School Arts Programs will receive a written evaluation at the end of the school year, while report card grades will be issued to all other students.
Participation in the Gifted and Talented Enrichment Program will automatically continue as long as satisfactory progress is made in G&T and the following requirements are met:
At the elementary level, students must maintain a ‘B’ average or better in their academic subjects.
At the middle school level, students must maintain a ‘B’ average or better in their academic subjects and must take at least one of the honors courses offered at each grade level. Students who are not recommended for at least one honors course will not be permitted to participate in the Gifted and Talented Enrichment Program for that year. If the student is recommended for at least one honors course the following year, the student will be readmitted into the program. A probationary grace period for developmental adjustment to middle school of one year will be granted to students entering sixth grade, if scheduling permits.
At the high school level, students must maintain a ‘B’ average or better in “R” track, honors, and/or AP courses If a student is unable to participate in the Gifted and Talented Program during any school year due to scheduling conflicts, the Gifted and Talented supervisor must be notified in writing by the parent. If a student wishes to continue in the Gifted and Talented Program the following year, the parent must contact the program supervisor who will review the student’s academic record and notify guidance of the student’s eligibility.
Participation in the Arts programs will automatically continue as long as satisfactory progress is made in Music, Theatre Arts or Visual Art, a ‘B’ average or better in academic subjects is maintained, and the student displays work in the Visual Art exhibit or performs in the Music or Theatre Arts end of the year production. In addition, a student may not accumulate more than two unexcused absences throughout the school year. If a student has more than two unexcused absences and/or if they do not participate in the end of the year production, they will be removed from the Arts program.
